Purpose of the programme:

The programme aims to train teachers capable of education in formal and informal dance teaching institutions, of individual and group tutoring both at the basic and at the professional levels of arts education. The graduated teachers know the contents of the ‘Arts’ section in the National Core Curriculum, and they are capable of leading classes in institutional dance education as well as for youth or adult vocational education groups. They are capable of researching in pedagogy and in their dance field, making plans, creating innovations, and producing public performances for educational purposes. The programme also prepares candidates for a doctorate school.

Language requirements:

To obtain an MA degree, a state-accredited foreign language examination on a complex B2 level is necessary, or a secondary school final exam certificate of the same level.

The specific subject-related pedagogical knowledge of a master of arts in modern dance
teaching:
  •  The acquisition of the methodology of modern and contemporary dance techniques such as art jazz, Graham-, Limón-, contact- and improvisation, supplemented by the methodology of teaching dance to children and obtaining some knowledge in contemporary music.
  • The role of arts education in the public education system, the methods of dance art, the integration of modern dance into public education, educating children about a healthy life with their age and pedagogical peculiarities concerned, fostering national identity via dance art.
  • The knowledge about the positive impact of arts education on one’s personality; of communication and social problems of adolescence and their relief by means of dance.
  • Getting ready for supporting talents, preparing talented students for a professional dancer career and nourishing exceptional talents in art.
  • The knowledge of dance forms: the analysis of their technical aspects and methodology, such as their pedagogical implications and incorporation into the teaching process through the didactics of dance teaching.
  • In addition to the dance form practised by the student, the application of teaching methods on a broader scale with the help of other dance specialisations and co-arts.
