Andrea P. Merlo, photographer and ballet master, has once again received a prestigious recognition, winning first prize with his photo series “Movements” at the 2025 New York International Photographic Awards in the Professional Advertising category. This award follows his 2023 first prize at the PX3 Paris Photography Awards in the Fine Art / People category.
“It is truly an honour for me to contribute to the promotion of ballet art and to showcase the talent of young artists from Hungary and various countries around the world on the international stage,” said Andrea Paolini Merlo.
Andrea, an Italian-born dancer, choreographer, and photographer living in Hungary, has been working for years with young artists from the Hungarian Dance University, creating artistically outstanding and captivating photographs of the students.
As a ballet artist, he achieved success primarily in character roles, but his one-act ballets also earned him numerous recognition. He has been involved in photography since 1987. In 1992, he graduated from the Hungarian Dance College, and naturally, dance—especially classical ballet—is close to him. He regularly takes part in creating photo material for ballet premieres, performances, and competitions, including the Budapest Ballet Grand Prix. His background as a dancer gives him a significant advantage in photography, and it is no coincidence that he works as a photographer at many of the university’s events.
“I sincerely congratulate and thank all the talented dancers who took part in the project, as well as the Hungarian Dance University for their dedicated support of their students and the art of dance,” said Andrea P. Merlo.
We also thank you for promoting the art of dance, the art of ballet, and the Hungarian Dance University around the world!
