Fukumuto Airi, a 7th year student of the Hungarian Dance University won a second place in the senior category of the 55th FLAP Ballet Competition held in Tokyo recently.
The 55th edition of the FLAP Ballet Competition is a traditional, well-established ballet contest in the Japanese capital.
The 55th edition may be a little misleading, as the event is held 5-6 times a year, but it can still be considered a traditional event, as FLAP celebrates its 13th anniversary in 2024. Its popularity is reflected by the fact that it is known as one of the largest competitions in terms of number of participants, with 2,500-3,000 young ballet dancers taking part each year.
The traditionally prestigious as well as world-class tutors judge the young talents. In addition, ballet competitions in Tokyo are highly acclaimed for their careful staging and the outstanding attention paid by the organisers to Japanese traditions.
Fukumuto Airi, a student of the Hungarian Dance University, danced Kitri’s variation from the third act of the ballet Don Quixote. The final of the category took place on 30 July 2024.
Congratulations to Fukumuto Airi and her coaches, particularly her Japanese ballet master Keiko Nakano and the Hungarian Angéla Kövessy for this excellent result.
