On September 16, Hungarian Dance University (HDU) held its International Welcome Event for the second time, during which the university leadership welcomed new and returning international students.

At the ceremonial opening, Vice-Rector Magdolna Salát and Institute Director Szilárd Macher shared their thoughts of the academic year with the students. This was followed by a presentation of the responsibilities of HDU’s international coordinators, after which university gym bags were handed out to the newly enrolled students.

Following the official opening, students participated in playful team-building activities: they played a game of People Bingo to get to know each other better, stood on an imaginary world map to see where everyone came from, and, to close the event, they worked in teams to design their own university merchandise ideas.

The aim of the event was to help international students feel at home at the Hungarian Dance University, make new friends, and experience the power of community from the very first month.

The event concluded with great success, and several students expressed how much they enjoyed this kind of afternoon programme.

As previously reported, the new international students arrived on August 17 and were required to participate in a two-week mandatory course to learn the basics of modern ballroom dance and to have the opportunity to catch up in modern dance as well. To support their integration, the international coordinators organized campus tours during these weeks, introduced the surrounding area of the university, and taught them, for example, how to order lunch from the canteen. In addition, taking advantage of their day off on August 20, they also took part in a team-building sightseeing tour, which was a great success and ended with a fireworks display.
