On April 28, the Small Hall of the National Dance Theatre hosted a special premiere. Joe Alegado, the versatile choreographer and dance artist born in the Philippines and currently living in Budapest, condensed 52 years of artistic experience into his performance titled Bits and Pieces. In addition, as a significant milestone for the graduating modern dance students of the Hungarian Dance University, renowned dance artists held workshops for them last Friday – and on several other occasions as well.
As part of the dance festival, a collaboration between the National Dance Theatre and the Hungarian Dance University provided students of the University with the opportunity to learn from renowned guest artists through several workshops. All 17 graduating students of the modern dance programme participated in Joe Alegado’s class.
A longer interview with Joe Alegado was also published on the website of the National Dance Theatre, in which the artist said:
“Since I no longer perform on stage, I dedicate more time to creation and to my work on teaching projects. During my work in both undergraduate and master’s programs, Iván Angelus helped me obtain a Hungarian residence permit by offering to list the Budapest Circus Arts and Contemporary Dance College as a supporting partner in my application. After receiving the residence permit, Budapest became my home.”
