The Sibiu Dance Competition international ballet competition was held in Sibiu, Romania, between October 16 and 18, 2026. Six students from the Hungarian Dance University took part in this year’s event, where Mira Jászovics won first place in the senior classical women category, while Ábel Tokai and Boróka Kosaras took second place in the pas de deux category.

The contestants were accompanied to the competition by Sándor Túri, Harangozó Gyula Award-winning dance artist and associate professor at HDU. Master instructor Mónika Barna acted as a member of the prestigious international jury, which also included:

  • Anderson Santana – Artistic Director of the Brussels International Ballet,
  • Annarella Roura Sánchez – International Dance Educator and Director,
  • Jan Broeckx – Artistic Director of the Ballet Academy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich,
  • Wilfried Jacobs – Ballet Master, choreographer and dance artist,
  • Adela Floricioiu – Ballet Master and Principal Dancer of the Sibiu Ballet Theatre, and
  • Sabrina Rinaldi – International jury member.

As in previous years, students from the Hungarian Dance University returned from the competition with impressive results and valuable professional recognition. Sándor Túri was particularly pleased with the students’ performance, highlighting that all of them performed admirably in the prestigious international field and represented the university with great honour.

As mentioned in the introduction: Mira Jászovics achieved 1st place in the senior classical women category, while Ábel Tokai and Boróka Kosaras took 2nd place in the pas de deux category.

Dorottya Tóth finished in the top 12 in the senior category, which is also a fine achievement, as was the performance of Piros Kocsaslijszki from the 8th grade, who likewise finished among the top 12.

Beyond the podium finishes, our students also won valuable international scholarships and professional opportunities. Both Mira Jászovics and Ábel Tokai received a one-week scholarship to the European School of Ballet. In addition, Ábel Tokai won a one-month professional internship opportunity with the Sibiu Ballet Theatre.

In addition to these, several of our students received free entry opportunities to the Tanzolymp Berlin – 24th International Dance Festival & Competition.

Congratulations to the students and their preparing masters!

Participation in the competition was realized with the support of the Pannónia Scholarship Programme.
