Dancer and Coach (BA) – Commercial dance specialisation

The programme aims to educate dancers and rehearsal coaches who are capable of   playing an active part in Hungarian dance life and who represent the values of Hungarian dance art in the international dance scene.

Equipped with technical and theoretical knowledge, they are capable of   participating in Hungarian dance life, both when employed in various institutions and as independent dancers, rehearsal coaches or assistants to choreographers. The programme ends in the sixth semester with a thesis, a theoretical and a practical stage exam. One of the main purposes of the programme is to prepare students for MA studies.

Purpose of the programme, general and professional competencies:

The programme aims to educate dancers and rehearsal coaches who have overall knowledge about the processes of dance, music and theatre history, their results and their impact on present-day art. They have analytic and synthesising knowledge about the various forms of commercial dance styles. They are familiar with and have acquired the technical components of the diverse trends and their combination and are able to create their fusion. They have a command of the movement elements, rules of styles, their body-conscious as well as a harmonic and aesthetic implementation. They know and use the indispensable results of communication, pedagogy and psychology, which are essential for coaching, in the work of a choreographer’s assistant and rehearsing choreographies. They are aware of ethical rules concerning dance and co-arts, the relevant rules for artistic performance and copyright.
