
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary in 2021, Péter Ertl, Director of the National Dance Theatre, established a new professional award. The Grand Prize for Theatrical Dance may be awarded to artists who have made outstanding contributions to the development of dance art and theatre.
The award is presented every two years. The first recipient was Jolán Török, founding director of the National Dance Theatre. In 2023, it was awarded to Tibor Galambos, dancer, choreographer, and director of dance and documentary films, and this year, János Kiss received the honour.
János Kiss, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation that maintains the university. He was one of the founding members of the Győr Ballet and later served as the company’s director for many years. Through his work, he played a defining role in the development of Hungarian dance. He is a Kossuth Prize- and Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning artist, Vice President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, and, as of November, also holds the title of Artist of the Nation.
