Successful performance in Brno

The graduating class of the Classical Ballet programme at the Hungarian Dance University has returned from a successful guest performance at the Mahen Theatre in Brno. The performance marked the students’ final appearance together, serving as the end of their university studies.

This collaboration began at last year’s Budapest Ballet Grand Prix international ballet competition, where Mario Radacovský, Artistic Director of the Brno company of the Czech National Ballet, was a member of the jury. During the event, he expressed his interest in connecting the Hungarian Dance University with the new leadership of the Brno Dance Conservatory to explore future cooperation.

After several months of discussions and professional preparation, the university was invited to the end-of-year gala of the Brno Dance Conservatory. Similar to the traditions of the Hungarian Dance University, the event featured performances by graduating students. The university was represented by 17 students, who presented the third act of their classical ballet exam performance, Virginie Brunelle’s choreography Bolero Remix, to the Czech audience.

“The welcome was extremely warm and thoughtful. Hana Litterová, the director of the school, and her colleagues paid special attention to us, their guests, despite the significant organizational tasks connected with the end-of-year performances,” said Tamás Csizmadia, Head of Arts Management. “Special thanks go to Jan Fousek, director of the Olomouc Ballet (Balet Moravského divadla Olomouc, Olomouc) and teacher at the conservatory, who personally helped us throughout our entire stay.”

The performance was a great success. The audience and professional guests both praised the students’ high-quality artistic performance and the chosen piece and repertoire. The production once again showed that students of the Hungarian Dance University can represent high artistic value and are competitive in an international environment.

The Head of Arts Management added that the guest performance was an important milestone not only from an artistic but also from an institutional point of view.

“We hope that we can further strengthen the relationship we have built in the future and that we will have the opportunity to return the generous hospitality of our partners in Brno. The students and teachers of our school are warmly welcomed back in the future, which could provide a promising foundation for a long-term professional cooperation between the two institutions,” concluded Tamás Csizmadia.
