This year’s admission process has been the most successful in the past fifteen years at Hungarian Dance University as well!

Hungarian Dance University (HDU), which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, has completed a successful admission process, just as Hungarian higher education as a whole has experienced its most successful admission period of the past fifteen years. Following the 2025 general admission process, 220 students will begin their studies at the university in September.

HDU’s strategic goal is to provide the highest level of professional knowledge expected by the labour market, so the university did not aim to increase student numbers during the admission process. The fact that in 2025 the university received 15% more applications than last year offers an opportunity to raise the standard, as having a larger applicant pool always provides a guarantee of quality. This goal was successfully realized this year.

In the 2025 admission process, a total of 457 applicants submitted 707 applications to any programmes at Hungarian Dance University. Of these, 84%, a total of 599 applications, were received for one of the university’s bachelor’s programmes, while 107 applications were submitted for one of the specializations within the dance teacher master’s programme.

Following the 2025 general admission process, 219 students will begin their studies at Hungarian Dance University in September: 168 in bachelor’s programmes (76% of those admitted) and 51 in teacher training programmes (23% of those admitted). This means that 48% of all applications led to admission, compared to 54% in 2024.

The institutional admission score thresholds remained largely consistent with previous years, with applicants able to earn a maximum of 400 points for the BA program and 100 points for the teacher training master’s programme.

In a unique approach within Hungarian higher education, Hungarian Dance University offers professional preparatory training for students entering dance programmes, starting from the age of 10 in classical ballet, and from 14 in folk dance, modern dance, and theatrical dance specializations. This year’s admission process in this area also concluded with strong results: 37 students were admitted to the classical ballet programme, and out of 64 applicants for the theatrical dance specialization, 23 will begin their studies at the institution in September.

“This year marks the most successful university admission period of the past fifteen years with 95,907 students admitted to the successful and renewed Hungarian higher education system,” declared Balázs Hankó in Veszprém, at the Pont Ott Party of University of Pannonia. The Minister for Culture and Innovation noted that over the past three years, the number of admitted students has consistently exceeded 90,000, but this year a record number of students were accepted. He also highlighted that, once again, eight out of ten students secured a state-funded place, and compared to last year, around 2,500 more students were admitted with government scholarships.

Renáta Vanó, Deputy President of the Educational Authority responsible for higher education, addressed the applicants before pressing the button at 8 p.m. with Balázs Hankó to launch the SMS notifications. She expressed her hope that as many applicants as possible would receive a message confirming their admission to Hungarian higher education institutions.

She said, “The next three, four, or five years will be one of the most beautiful periods of your life,” and advised them not to attend university just to study, but also to be part of the community.
